Lactose intolerance is the inability to digest the major sugar found in milk due to a deficiency of the enzyme lactase. Lactose intolerance is often confused with dairy allergies because the symptoms are similar. However, the two conditions can occur together and in such cases, the treatment can offer partial benefit.
